    IAF AFCAT 01/2026 Selection Process:

The AFCAT selection process involves a written exam, followed by an Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) interview, and concludes with a medical examination. First, candidates take the online AFCAT written test (and EKT for technical posts), with successful candidates proceeding to the AFSB interview. The AFSB interview consists of a screening test, a two-stage assessment process over five days (including psychological tests, group tasks, and an interview), and a Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test for flying branch candidates. Finally, those recommended after the AFSB interview undergo a detailed medical examination.

    Step 1: Written Examination

Candidates must first clear the online AFCAT written exam, which includes multiple-choice questions on general awareness, verbal ability, reasoning, numerical ability, and military aptitude.

For technical branches, an Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) is also conducted. Note that the EKT is not required for all recent AFCAT exams.

Candidates who pass the written test are called for the AFSB interview.

Step 2: Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) Interview

This is a five-day selection process held at one of the AFSB centers.

Stage I: Includes an Officer Intelligence Rating (OIR) test and a Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PPDT).

Stage II: Candidates who clear Stage I proceed to the following tests over the next four days:

Psychological Tests: Written tests conducted by a psychologist.

Group Tests: A series of interactive indoor and outdoor activities.

Interview: A personal interview with an Interviewing Officer.

CPSS Test: Candidates applying for the flying branch also undergo the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) test.

    Step 3: Medical Examination

Candidates who are recommended by the AFSB interview must undergo a detailed medical examination.

This medical examination is conducted to ensure that candidates meet the strict physical and medical standards for entry into the Air Force.
