About Stree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation (Stree Nidhi Telangana): Stree Nidhi Credit Cooperative Federation Limited., is a women-centric financial institution promoted by the Government of Telangana and SHG federations to provide affordable, timely, and adequate credit to Women Self Help Group (SHG) members in the State. It is an apex cooperative society registered under the Telangana State Cooperative Societies Act, 1964, commenced operations on 6 October 2011, and is owned, governed, and managed by women SHG members on a totally digitalised platform with the help of professionals.
The institution was established to minimise dependence on high-cost borrowings from moneylenders/microfinance institutions and financing sustainable livelihoods leading to women empowerment. Stree Nidhi extends loans to SHGs for livelihood enhancement/micro enterprises, consumption, health, education, and emergency needs at reasonable interest rates. The SHGs then lend to their members to meet credit needs for various purposes.
Stree Nidhi operates through a robust three-tier SHG framework comprising Village Organizations, Mandal Samakhyas, and District Federations, with support from SERP and MEPMA, Telangana. Leveraging strong IT systems and digital platforms, it ensures transparency, efficiency, scalability, and loan processing. Over the years, Stree Nidhi has become an integral part of the State Government’s poverty alleviation initiatives. It has evolved into a strong financial institution with a credit portfolio of approximately Rs. 5,470 Crore and has emerged as a role model at national level and it is recognized as a National Support Organization for replicating the model in other states of the country.
In addition to credit services, Stree Nidhi provides loan-linked insurance, saving schemes and implements schemes of Government of India and State Government such as Dairy, Solar initiatives, PM SVANidhi etc., It also operates as a Business Correspondent to banks, managing a network of over 1,000 Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) to extend banking services an behalf of banks.
