The UPSC Engineering
Services Examination (ESE) selection process involves three main stages: a
Preliminary Exam, a Mains Exam, and a Personality Test (Interview), followed by
final merit and Medical Examination for eligible candidates. Candidates must
qualify in each stage to progress to the next, with the final merit list
determined by the combined scores from the Prelims, Mains, and Interview. Stage 1: Preliminary Exam Objective Type: This is an
objective-type exam with two papers. Content: Paper I covers General
Studies & Engineering Aptitude, while Paper II is based on the candidate's
specific Engineering Discipline. Purpose: To screen candidates for
the next stage. Stage 2: Mains Exam Conventional (Descriptive) Type: This
stage involves descriptive (conventional) papers. Content: Candidates answer
questions related to their specific Engineering Discipline. Purpose: To assess a deeper
understanding of the technical subject matter and determine eligibility for the
Personality Test. Stage 3: Personality Test Evaluation: This interview
assesses a candidate's communication skills, professional ability, and overall
suitability for Group A/B engineering services. Weightage: The interview carries
a specific mark weightage and plays a crucial role in the final selection. Final Merit and Medical
Examination Merit List: The final merit list
is based on the cumulative marks obtained in the Preliminary, Mains, and
Personality Test stages.
Medical Examination: Candidates
who qualify for final selection undergo a Medical Examination to ensure they
meet the required health standards. |
