B.Sc. Emergency Medical Technology: The B.Sc. Emergency
Medical Technology (EMT) Course provides training that emphasizes trauma care,
cardiac emergencies, airway management, and transportation protocols, aligning
with internationally recognized standards. As emergency medical response
continues to evolve, the demand for skilled Emergency Medical Technicians has
grown significantly, highlighting the importance of structured education and
hands-on experience. This program is ideal for those aspiring to work in
ambulatory care, emergency rooms, disaster response teams, and paramedic
services. It fosters a high level of clinical competency, critical
decision-making, and teamwork, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to
handle high-pressure environments.
Expectations of the course: The student must be able to work in a
standing position and to walk for extended periods of time. The student must be
able to lift and transfer patients safely. Safely moving a patient includes
lifting and transferring a patient up to 18 inches from a bending position,
then pushing/pulling/pivoting that weight up to three (3) feet. The student
must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 35% of his or her body weight. The
student must be able to apply up to 10 pounds of pressure to control bleeding
sites and to perform CPR. The student must be able to respond and react
immediately to auditory instruction, requesting, and/or monitoring equipment.
The student must be able to perform auscultation without auditory impairment.
The student must be able to perform close and distant visual activities, which
may include but not be limited to people, paperwork, objects, depth and color
perception.
B.Sc. Hematology and Transfusion Medicine: B.Sc. Hematology
& Transfusion Medicine is a four-year full-time bachelor’s degree programme
including one-year compulsory Internship, where students are trained in various
aspects of blood banking technology and other transfusion medicine procedures.
With the establishment of the Transfusion Medicine department in medical
colleges all over India, dedicated Transfusion medicine technologists are in
need. Transfusion Medicine encompasses not only basic blood banking but also it
involves Apheresis procedures, Preparation of modified blood components,
Immunohematology, HLA typing and cross matching for transplantation of organ,
Regenerative medicine etc. Future Scope of B.Sc. Hematology & Transfusion
Medicine is bright as the Indian Drugs and Cosmetics Act & rules 1945
allows (recognizes) them to be employed as Blood centre technologists,
technical supervisors, etc. They stand a better chance of getting appointed.
They can also be employed as Quality managers. With advancements in modified
blood products, Immunohematology, Apheresis, Molecular techniques, organ
transplantation, etc. since these graduates are trained in almost all such
fields, the career and job opportunities in blood centers both in private and
corporate hospitals, are the best. The students can also pursue a Postgraduate
degree and further research. This may allow them to work as teachers in
Paramedical training institutes.
